The Perimeter's Intelligent Endpoint for Security

perimeter fenceIn my previous blog, I spoke about the Whole Building Design 'imperative' that promises to optimize the construction of new and retrofit construction. I suggested that security should be at the table. By 'security' I meant the entire ecosystem including:

  • The Risk and Resilience Team (Internal role players as well as ORM consultants)
  • The Security Operations Team
  • The Security Integration Team (Internal role players as well as your trusted integrator)
  • The IT Team, who with the Security Team, helps define the IT architecture and standards.

As well, I was reminded not to forget the perimeter by a blog written in response to mine. The perimeter or, to be more specific, the fence or border of the property.

The author makes a good point. I quote the key attributes of an 'intelligent' fence

  • Zoning: the ability to configure areas against your risk profiles and your traffic patterns

  • Intelligent Alarm Recognition: Differentiating between interference and intrusion

  • Scalability: Both at the perimeter and in the integration with your access control technology and your security operations center.

  • Maintainability: You need durable, low maintenance fencing that is unaffected by weather

  • Cost: With intelligence at the perimeter, configured with and through your SOC, you can reduce the amount of physical guards needed to patrol

I am providing a link to this discussion on the role of the 'intelligent' fence that suggests IT and security professionals should look at this as another end point to be secured, monitored, managed and measured.
